Games Rife For a TV Show or Film Adaptation
Certain games have long had enthusiastic, even rabid, fan bases. However, it has only been recently that the gamers who loved certain games in their youth are not in the driver's seat when it comes to being involved in the film/TV show adaptations based on games. With the success of Amazon's Fallout, Netflix’s Cyberpunk and HBO's The Last of Us, it makes dollars and sense to see more adaptations helmed by those who love the intellectual property.
Here is a list of video games coupled with the right creatives that can not only recharge their existing fan bases but also expand to the masses of non-video game players.
A Fallout Anthology Series in the vein of Black Mirror or Love Death + Robots
That’s right, back to the wasteland.
Fallout offers the advantage of being more of a setting than a linear narrative. Each game stands as a self-contained story within this expansive world.
This setup allows for considerable freedom in crafting new narratives, provided they adhere to the fundamental lore of the universe.
An anthology series where each story is told by a different creator would be amazing to see.
Bioshock
Like Fallout, the Bioshock “multiverse” can provide unlimited stories to tell, and like Fallout, also has strong original narratives from each title that can be adapted for the big or small screen.
Mass Effect
The people, gamers and non-gamers alike, would embrace a series based on this epic.
This could be a Game of Thrones in space.
The First Contact War presents an ideal backdrop for a series, offering a narrative separate from the games' constraints on portraying Shepherd or delving into the aftermath of the Reaper threat.
With numerous intriguing events only briefly mentioned, it stands as a compelling premise in itself: humanity's initial contact and interactions within a galactic community of alien races, encompassing conflicts and political intricacies.
Imagining a political drama where humans, neither markedly superior nor inferior to other species, leverage their distinct qualities like resilience and resourcefulness to navigate the complexities of the Mass Effect universe would offer a refreshing perspective.
I love to see a West Wing style drama set in the Mass Effect universe.
Metro
The Metro series, primarily based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels, is set in a post-apocalyptic world where nuclear war has devastated the Earth, leaving only a few survivors in the ruins of Moscow's subway system.
With factions and mutants, has a very similar vibe as Fallout.
Control
The game follows Jesse Faden, who arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) headquarters, known as the Oldest House, searching for answers about her past and the mysterious disappearance of her brother. Upon entering the building, Jesse discovers that the FBC is a secretive government agency tasked with studying and containing supernatural phenomena.
Would love an X-Files like show that explores the supernatural.
Red Dead Redemption
HBO making a show based on Red Dead Redemption.
Enough said.
